Important Notice

The 0.2 version of WMSoundConfig that was posted here was buggy, and didn't seem to work correctly on anybody's machine. I have replaced it with a new version that I'm pretty sure corrects the problem. If you have downloaded it before and had problems, please get the newest version (0.2b) and try again.

Please email me at sgifford@tir.com if you download this and compile it, and let me know if it works correctly or not.

Thanks!

WMSound Configuration Utility (wmsoundconfig 0.2)

Copyright (C) 1998 Scott W. Gifford <sgifford@tir.com>

wmsoundconfig is a graphical user interface (as well as a noisy user interface) program for configuring wmsound. It allows you to browse sounds from various directories on your system, preview the sounds, and then assign them to WindowMaker events. It also allows you to preview the sounds that you have on your system.

It was written by Scott Gifford, with a bit of (for the most part inadvertant) help from the people credited in the AUTHORS file.

wmsoundconfig uses the GTK+ libraries for it's user interface.

Requirements

Tested on RedHat Linux 5.0.

Using it

Please install wmsound-0.6 or higher before installing this package. After installing wmsoundconfig (with the usual "./configure; make; make install"), you should be able to simply run it.

Once you are up and running, you can preview sounds with the right-hand panel. The dropdown list has the sound directories found in your SoundPath, and the listbox underneath has a list of all the sounds in that directory. The play button plays the sound. Browse allows you to choose a directory that isn't in the dropdown list. The Add/Delete SoundPath Directories allows you to change which directories are in your soundpath.

The left pane contains a list of all of the events recognized by wmsound. You can select the events to see a brief description below, and if it currently has a sound assigned to it the play button on the left will let you hear it. The filename of the current sound is displayed below, and you can hover your mouse over it to see the full path.

The humongous Select button in the middle assigns the sound selected on the right to the event selected on the left. If there is no sound selected, it will assign the event to not make a sound.

The OK button on the bottom saves the current settings and then quites. Apply just saves the current settings. Cancel just quits. Closing the window is equivalent to pressing cancel.

The statusbar across the bottom displays any errors that may occur during normal operation of the program.

wmsound will automatically discover changes after they are saved, and it is no longer necessary to kill and restart it. (yay!)
